Easter 2011

For Easter this year, Jenn and I both had the same idea- a surprise Easter Egg hunt. Jenn worked on Easter, so she hid the eggs before she left. She did an excellent job hiding because I didn't even know I had an Easter Egg hunt until she called me later that morning and asked if I had fun finding the eggs! So I still had trouble finding 2 of the 12 eggs she hid, but I feel that my searching skills have improved over the years. I earned all those pieces of chocolate.

For Jenn's Easter Egg hunt, I hid her eggs around our backyard while she was at work. She was so excited to start finding her eggs that she went straight outside to find them (even though it was dark). She had a lot of trouble finding most of the eggs. It's probably because it was dark out but now I'm thinking that maybe she went out at night on purpose so that she would have an excuse when she couldn't find them. She's sneaky like that. In her eggs I put little pieces of chocolate which she may have to break up or melt a little as she had a gum graft recently and still can't bite down on foods. I also gave her a homemade puzzle which each piece has a coupon for things like "1 day of no video games" or "movie night to a chick flick". So she enjoyed her egg hunt and her prizes as well. Tomorrow we get to head to Asheville and have a little mini vacation!

My Birthday

For my birthday this year we had a few friends over and cooked out. It was a lot of fun and included cornhole, a fire, and flaming Dr. Peppers. Jenn also came in to school on my actual birthday and brought the class a Spiderman cake, which was really awesome. No wonder why my students love her more than me.

I got a lot of neat gifts for my birthday. A lot of giftcards and well-wishes as well as a new reclining camp chair for Jenn and my many camping trips we plan on taking this summer. Even though I'm getting older, at least I'm not 30.

Dr. Pepper anyone?

Clemson Easter Bunny Run

February and March passed by with little eventful activities. Jenn and I had weeknights together, but never had a long weekend for a mini-trip thanks to the winter storm in January. So my better half took care of the house on the weekdays and busied herself cooking, cleaning, volunteering (occasionally in my class which my students love), reading, and basically making it so I had no chores to do on the weekends (which I love). Every weekend found us apart- her out making the big bucks while I sat on the couch playing video games or going over to Mavis and Will's new house and hanging out with them. So that was our February and March.

However, we did have some time to start running and going to the gym during the week, so we signed up for a race on April 2nd in Clemson. We had never been to Clemson before so it sounded like a nice, relatively local place for a race that weekend. Jenn was going to take that weekend off anyway for our friends' couples shower, so it all worked out. Jenn ran in the 5k and made a personal best time of 23:43* and I ran in the half-marathon and made a 2nd personal best of 1:52:00*. The asterisks are there because I don't believe the race was marked the correct distance. The first 3 miles or so were probably each about 1/10 of a mile short, so my time was probably about 3 or 4 minutes off and Jenn's was probably a little less than that off. But I suppose I will allow Jenn's time to go in the record books as she still hasn't topped my best time from last year of 23:32. It was good to be back in a race again and I look forward to running another half marathon or two this coming year.
