The first big event we have had in March was the very first weekend. Danny V. had booked us all a cabin for the annual cabin trip that was started after my first year in college. Normally the trip is taken over Christmas break, but as we have all grown up and have jobs, only the teachers now have a break at Christmas. So the trip was moved to a weekend that was convenient for most people. Luckily Jenn and I could arrange to make the trip north this year. As Danny and Bob are in Virginia while the rest of the group is still around Pittsburgh, Danny booked a cabin in Deep Creek, Maryland- about midway for all them (7 hours for us). I took a half day on Friday so Jenn and I could spend as much time with friends as possible. It was a really nice place with over a foot of snow still on the ground when we got there. We actually had to park at the rental office and have Danny pick us up and bring us up to the chalet. We had a total of 14 people there and had a great time playing board games and snow ball fights (with a killer fort) during the day and some competitive drinking games at night.

Following the cabin weekend, Jenn went up to Pennsylvania to visit her family. While she was gone, I invested in another video game and made some good progress while she was gone. Also, I had my longest run yet. 16 1/2 miles. It was brutal and made me question my ability to complete an entire marathon. My whole lower body was aching the last few miles and I had to sit in an ice-cold bath to ease the pain. The next few days were taken off from training for recovery.
Then the following weekend, Jenn and I ran in the 3rd annual North Carolina marathon/half-marathon. We ran in the half marathon. We both ran it last year and got our PRs (personal records) at 1:50 and 1:51. This year I was hoping to get around the same results, but as we have not done any speedwork, my time was not as good at only 1:53. Jenn's goal was under 2:00 and she came in around 1:58. So overall, not a bad race. Very hilly course, but it was very scenic- especially running through High Point University. We are now looking forward to continued training and Easter up in Prince Gallitzen with my family.
